Dear Diary
I’m looking forward to having Think New Orleans running.
The new software is going to be the basis of The Engine Room blog. I’m going to be blogging in the small, to record decisions. Using a blog as a developer’s notebook. Blog entries are not articles, and don’t require a title, or snappy writing.
There are so many bits of information that I loose as a programmer. I forget Perl and shell while working with Java. I forget Java while working with XSLT. I forget everything working with JavaScript.
Languages like JavaScript and bash are snippet languages, not modular languages. They would benefit from a cookbook approach.
I’d like to create cookbook recipes for a lot of little things that I do along the way, before the knowledge gets lost in a huge system.
Blogs are not meant for this. They are meant for writers, for diarists. They are not designed for the organization of information. I need a system that creates smaller bits, so I can gather those bits where they belong.
Microformats matter.
